Tea tree oil is a wonderful product with many different applications. It can be used not only for aromatherapy and massages, but in many aspects of house cleaning as well. Here are ten ways you can utilise tea tree oil for effective home cleaning and disinfecting your entire house.
1. All-Purpose Home Cleaner
You can make a handy multipurpose domestic cleaner buy mixing 10-12 drops of tea tree oil with ½ cup of white vinegar and 2 cups of hot water. Use this mixture to clean and disinfect countertops, floors and bathroom and kitchen tiles. Just avoid cleaning marble or granite surfaces with it, as vinegar can damage natural stone quite easily.
2. Home Deodoriser
A great way to keep your home smelling amazingly fresh is making your own home deodorizer by mixing together some water, vodka, white vinegar and a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Tea tree oil has a lovely smell and is a great choice for deodorising your home.
3. Air Purifier
Use your oil diffuser and add a few drops of tea tree oil for a natural way of purifying the air at your home. The added bonus will be the oil’s gorgeous, light smell.
4. Mould Removal Spray
Mould and mildew can be the bane of the homeowner, as those are notoriously persistent and hard to remove. To make a mould removal spray you can use in your bathroom cleaning, mix 1 cup of water with around 5ml of tea tree oil and pour that in a spray bottle. Shake the spray bottle before use and spray the mixture onto the mould affected areas; let it sit for a couple of minutes and then wipe away with a clean cloth.
5. Laundry Detergent Booster
House cleaning is not the only area tea tree oil can assist you in. Your laundry can benefit from it too – just pour a teaspoon of it into your detergent to prevent bacterial and fungal infections caused by excessively soiled clothes.
6. Bathroom Scrub
Create a homemade scrub to use as a bathroom cleaner by combining a teaspoon of tea tree oil with some vinegar, water, castile soap and baking soda. Baking soda will help remove stains while vinegar and tee tree oil will fight mould and bacteria.
7. Toothbrush Disinfectant
Your toothbrush can collect a lot of gunk. To disinfect it, soak it for half an hour in a mixture of water and tee tree oil.
8. Bug Spray
Store-bought bug sprays usually contain many harmful chemicals. If you want to keep your home cleaning and pest control as green as possible, make an eco-friendly bug spray by using 10-15 drops of peppermint oil and the same amount of tea tree oil mixed with witch hazel lotion and water. This will help you keep ticks, flies, mosquitoes and other pests away.
9. Homemade Soap
You can quite easily make a nice-smelling soap at home by combining 2 tbsp of tea tree oil with 2 cups of glycerine soap base. Melt the base, add the essential oil and pour into a mould. This soap is safe to use for both house cleaning and on your skin.
